Chris Rock Should Do A Show Here Every Year

He has not done a major world tour for nearly a decade, but Chris Rock will be at Spark Arena on Saturday, July 1, as part of his Total Blackout tour.

There are few comedians who can pull of an arena tour and Rock is worth the price of admission. He is more than just a talking zebra. Rock has been around for a while and he has managed to stay relevant after all these years, which does not seem to be an easy feat in La La Land. And can we all agree that he does not look like he has aged at all – lucky bastard.

Since I was born in the early ‘90s, I missed his time as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. I knew of him because of his involvement with Everybody Hates Chris. I was a bit late to the party but it was when Rock hosted the Oscars in 2005 that I took notice.

I thought he was hilarious. The reviews were scathing. Looking back on it, I think Rock was ahead of his time. If Twitter was around back then, his monologue would have been largely celebrated. When he returned to host the Oscars in 2016, I thought he brought the same fresh, devastatingly honest and politically relevant humour he is so good at. I LOVED the Jada joke.

For this tour, he has said the show will feature all new material. Given the current political environment, this should make for a very entertaining and funny show. And isn’t that what it’s all about? We want to be entertained and we want to laugh. We can all use a laugh and a comedian as good as Rock can deliver on that.
