Here’s some jolly news in the lead up to Chistmas… this year’s Farmers Santa Parade will go ahead and will take place on Sunday, 29 November from 1pm.
If all goes to plan and we stay at alert level 1, the 2020 parade will maintain the same scale as with previous years with lots of spectacle, floats, inflatables and performances.
Making their parade debuts this year will be giant inflatable Peppa Pig and new characters including LOL Dolls, Beauty and the Beast and Chip. Regulars like Disney’s Mickey and Minnie, Thomas the Tank Engine, Queen Elsa, Pikachu, Leo the Ninja Turtle, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Where’s Wally will also be in attendance.
Even though the iconic giant Santa towering above the Farmers building will no longer be a part of the festivities, TV personality of the year winner Hilary Barry (which I would argue is a national icon in her own right) will lead this year’s parade.
The parade will start on Mayoral Drive by Aotea Centre and will end by Customs Street East.
Try to use public transport if you can to head into the city. Otherwise, free parking will be available on parade day for cars parked before 11am and exited between 2pm and 6pm at the Downtown and Victoria Street Auckland Transport car parks.
After the parade, there will be food vendors, live entertainment and rides at Santa’s Party in Aotea Square from about 2:30pm.
If needed, the rain date will be Sunday, 6 December.
