Auckland’s annual Artweek is running from October 12 to 20 this year and throughout the festival, more than 200 events and exhibitions are taking place. With a diverse range of things to see and do, if you only had time to check out one event, it has to be “Late Night Art”.
“Late Night Art” is on October 15 from 5pm-9pm. As part of Artweek, galleries will be open late. Plus, you can join in on guided walking and cycling tours, and see live art events.
The Auckland Art Gallery will offer after-hours access this evening to its full exhibition line-up, which will include the chance to see the “Guerrilla Girls: Reinventing the ‘F’ Word – Feminism!” exhibition before it closes for good. This exhibition showcases how the New York-based artists Guerrilla Girls use vibrant poster art to discuss prejudices in art and society. Other exhibitions at the Gallery will include “A Place to Paint: Colin McCahon in Auckland” and “F’Ani and RoBro present DiscoVERY”. What’s more, entry to this event is free.
Another key event during “Late Night Art” will be “StreetArtDego” at Khartoum Place and Te Hā o Hine Place. Now in its fourth year, “StreetArtDego” will combine art and food for an interactive micro festival. This year, artists and chefs will explore the theme “Climate Changed” in culinary or creative ways. Food vendors for the evening will include Wise Boys, The Pie Piper, and The Rolling Pin.
Other “Late Night Art” events will include “High St Art Market,” which will involve a pedestrianised High Street and “Urban Art Village” at O’Connell Street where you will see pop-up structures.
