The Aotea Square Ice Rink Is Back And Cooler Than Ever

I immediately apologise for the cold pun. I just could not help myself.

Winter is here! With temps regularly down to single digits, it’s that time of the year again when I see constant social media posts about how it feels really cold. I would post about it too but it’s too cold to get my hands out of my pockets and type it up. More importantly! Winter also marks the return of the Aotea Square Ice Rink.

I’m so happy they keep bringing this adorable winter wonderland back. It’s a staple at this point. Winter in the city just won’t feel complete without it. What makes this particular outdoor rink stand out from the rest is that you’re exposed to the backdrop and energy of the city while you skate. It’s what makes the experience special.

And if you need to grab a bite to eat after skating, there are plenty of dining options in and near Aotea Square. I tend to go to Elliot Stables when I’m around that area and order the heavenly fried chicken and curly fries from Bonz Cajun Kitchen. And grab a pipping hot chocolate too while you’re at it. It’s the perfect complement after your time on the ice. If the BOX Café and Bar is open, I would get the hot drink there because it offers excellent views for people-watching over the square.
