When the press release came out about this year’s Aotea Square Ice Rink, I said, “Shit, it’s really winter now!” And because we deserve all the good things in life, this year we are getting an Ice Rink, an Ice Slide, and an Ice Bar!
The Ice Rink will be in Aotea Square from June 15 until July 22. As usual, skaters will get to enjoy themed events, including the popular 4th of July Americana party. The 35-metre Ice Slide will also be back this season.
While the Ice Rink and Ice Slide will no doubt be super popular because they always have been in the past, there will be an Ice Bar for the first time that will highly likely be a crowd favourite as well. The Ice Bar can accomodate 15 people at a time and will serve cocktails and mocktails. The temperature in the Ice Bar will be set to -5C degrees so the name is very fitting. It’s going to be icy in there!
Also, while you’re in Aotea Square, check out the beautiful light podiums Pou Rama (Light Posts) from the end of June that will be installed to celebrate Matariki.
