Everyone understands that this is the time of the year when a majority of us gets invited to what seems like endless amounts of Christmas parties – either with family, friends, colleagues, or all of the above. For me, one of my favourite activities to do at said endless amounts of Christmas parties is to consume alcohol. If you’re like me in that regard and have big plans this Friday, December 21, then you’re in for a real treat. Auckland Transport is making travel on all buses and trains free this Friday from 4p.m. until the end of the service.

Game changer!

The police said that the Friday before Christmas is one of the worst days of the year for drink-driving. With this in mind, providing the free public transport this Friday is a good initiative to (hopefully) help reduce drink-driving incidents.

The gate at the train stations will be opened at 4p.m. and the tagging machines will be turned off on all bus trips starting after 4p.m. If your journey starts before 4p.m. but finishes after 4p.m., this trip will not be free. But all trips starting after 4p.m. will be free.

Also, this offer is not available on ferries, Skybus or Waiheke buses.

Visit the AucklandTransport website if you’d like to find out more information about this offer.

Stay safe out there on the roads, folks!
