While Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth of May, started as a holiday to celebrate the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla, here in our part of the world, it’s really become an occasion to celebrate Mexican culture, or more specifically, Mexican food and drinks. Meaning, it provides people an occasion to eat tasty food and drink delish margaritas. I’m all about the margaritas for this one.
A great place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in town is at Mexico’s Britomart branch. From May 3 to 5, Mexico has organised a whole weekend fiesta with food and liquor specials all weekend long. I know… I know… Mexico isn’t exactly traditional but it’s a good place to dine out. The atmosphere is always buzzing, the food is reliably good, and its sangrias and Frida’s Margaritas are easy to drink.
Mexico is also hosting the return of the Margarita Masterclass on May 4 where you can learn to be a master in the fine art of making and consuming margaritas. The class is 90 minutes and food is included in your ticket. The tickets for the class are extremely limited so book them via iTICKET if you’re keen so you don’t miss out.
