As someone who owns a CD (Yes, you read that right. A CD!) of the Chicago soundtrack, it is very accurate to say that I am beyond excited that the musical is making its way to New Zealand soon.
The longest running American musical in Broadway history is set to razzle dazzle audiences in Auckland from August 25 to September 9 at The Civic.
Set in the prohibition-era of the 1920s, Chicago is the story of housewife and nightclub dancer Roxie Hart who murders her lover after he threatens to walk out on her. With the help of smooth-talking lawyer Billy Flynn, she transforms her crime into stardom to fool everyone, including rival cellmate Velma Kelly, in order to avoid conviction.
It’s not surprising at all that Chicago continues to be popular to this day. You get social satire, intrigue, love, betrayal, rivalry, and friendship all in one stunning, sexy, and exciting musical.
Also, let’s not forget about the musical’s jam-packed set of catchy songs! An 11-piece orchestra will be playing favourites like All That Jazz, Razzle Dazzle, Roxie, and Cell Block Tango. Cell Block Tango is my favourite. The song is dramatic, sensual, and the lyrics are cheeky in an incredibly twisted way – I mean the song is about murder.
Speaking of murder, it would be a crime to miss out on seeing one of the most popular musicals live on stage so buy your tickets to see Chicago via Ticketmaster now!
