Chill Out At The SeePort Festival During Auckland Anniversary Weekend

Adding to the jam-packed activities over this coming Auckland Anniversary weekend on Saturday, January 25 to Monday, January 27 is Ports of Auckland’s SeePort Festival.

Returning for its seventh year in 2020, SeePort Festival is a three-day celebration of our city’s waterfront and maritime heritage. What’s even better is that this family-friendly festival is one of the country’s largest free events! They had me at free.

The festivities will be at Captain Cook and Marsden Wharves along Quay Street. There will be carnival rides, boat sailings, helicopter rides, simulators, tours, and entertainment. Basically, there will be a lot happening.

There will also be food available for purchase because a festival isn’t complete without delicious food. You can count on one of the food vendors to sell ice cream because it is way too hot at the moment. Speaking of too hot, free water stations will be available around the wharf to keep you hydrated so do not forget to bring your own bottle.

If you only have one day to attend the festival, I would recommend going on Sunday evening (more specifically from 6pm) for a live concert and fireworks. The Auckland Symphony Orchestra will be performing on Captain Cook Wharf alongside local band White Chapel Jack. The evening will end with a fireworks display to celebrate Auckland’s 180th birthday with a bang. You can even bring your own alcoholic beverages (In small quantities!) from 5pm on Sunday night to drink during the concert. Pretty much, you should treat this evening like a picnic; bring a blanket, find a spot to sit on, and enjoy the live music and fireworks.

For a more detailed look of the schedule (because as I said, there will be a lot happening), visit the SeePort Festival website.
