Disney’s Aladdin – The Musical is FINALLY coming to our shores at the start of next year. Performances are scheduled to start from January 3 at The Civic Theatre in Auckland.
Based on the Academy Award-winning 1992 animated film (that everyone should have seen and if you haven’t, then you should do something about that stat because it is a classic), this Australian production of the hit Broadway musical features a talented cast of 34 (including our very own George Henare as The Sultan) and fabulous sets, special effects, and costumes. Seeing Aladdin, Jasmine, Jafar, Genie, and Agrabah be brought to life on stage right before my eyes is something I’m really excited about. And I’m curious to see how they are going to do the magic carpet ride!
What I’m looking forward to the most is hearing all the classic songs such as Friend Like Me, A Whole New World, and Arabian Nights. This is such a cliché but I expect to be transported back to my childhood the moment I hear A Whole New World. This song is so synonymous with Aladdin that if done well, this is going to be the big moment of the show for me.
Since its debut in 2014, Aladdin has been enchanting millions of theatregoers worldwide. I’ve heard from several friends who live overseas that have seen the stage production that the show is an absolute must-see because it is very good.
