It’s time to get ready for the return of one of the most popular cultural events in town.

The annual Diwali Festival is set to return to Aotea Square and Queen Street from October 14 and 15.

The festival is your chance to experience traditional and contemporary Indian culture in its many forms. Enjoy tasty Indian food, entertaining performances and other fun activities.

Personally, I’m most looking forward to seeing the dance performances. I’m not going to pretend that I’ve heard of the Kalika Kala Kendra dance group before but apparently, they are renowned and are experts at the lavani – a combination of traditional song and dance performed to the beats of dholki, a percussion instrument. Sounds cool, right? And there is also the Bollywood dance competition that is surely going to be cool to see.

A fireworks display on Sunday night will finish off this fun two-day festival.
