How To Celebrate Mother’s Day In Your Bubble Under Level 3

Under normal circumstances, my brother and I have Mother’s Day down to a science. We take the family out for Mother’s Day lunch and we give our mum a spa gift voucher so she can have some well-deserved time to herself. Given that Mother’s Day 2020 is going to be anything but normal with no lunch dine-ins (we went to Sails Restaurant for Mother’s Day last year) and calming spa sessions due to the Alert Level 3 restrictions, we’re going to have to get creative to salvage the occasion. Here are my top ideas on how to celebrate Mother’s Day in your bubble under Alert Level 3:

Spoil her with a special Mother’s Day meal
So you can’t spoil her by actually taking her out for a meal, but this is a great alternative. Either make the meal yourself (serving her breakfast in bed would start the day on a high note) or order her favourite meal from her favourite local spot and get it delivered.

Treat her to a future spa appointment
As soon as it is deemed safe for spas to open again, your mum can treat herself to an appointment using the gift voucher you give her. While spas and massage parlours are still unable to open during Alert Level 3, reach out to your local favourites as many have vouchers available for purchase now.

Send her flowers she’ll love
You cannot go wrong with sending or delivering flowers to your mum for Mother’s Day and this is a great way to support our local florists during these challenging times. Plus, having fresh flowers truly do make a difference inside a home.

Take an online class together
If you’re going to be inside anyway, you might as well use this opportunity to take an online class and do something productive as a family. The best part about it being online is that you don’t even need to be in the same bubble to do this together. Your family can take cooking, dance, wine, yoga or pilates classes – there are plenty of online classes available to choose from.

Host a video chat session
If your whole family cannot be together physically on Mother’s Day, simply get in touch the virtual way with a video chat session. There are plenty of platforms available to make this happen including Zoom, FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, and of course Skype. You can even turn your virtual catchup into a virtual happy hour and chat with alcohol on hand.
