How You Can Support Our Awesome Local Restaurants And Cafés During Alert Level 3

With the government’s announcement that we will be moving to alert level 3 next Tuesday, April 28 comes the very exciting prospect that we’ll be able to get takeaways again very, very soon (yes, finally). Not only will this provide us with a well-deserved break from constantly cooking, cleaning the dishes and then thinking about what to cook next, being able to get takeaways will also allow us the opportunity to support the restaurants and cafés that had to close due to the alert level 4 lockdown.

When ordering takeaways during alert level 3, the government’s “golden rule” for businesses is that they must be contactless, so the restaurant or café must have a contactless delivery and/or pick-up service. Customers must also pay online, over the phone or in another contactless way.

With these necessary rules in place to help us stop the spread of COVID-19, I’d like to share a list of services that are available to help us support our awesome hospitality businesses during alert level 3.

Eat Local NZ
This Kiwi startup says on their website that, “When you order with us HEAPS more cash goes to your local.” You can use this platform to make delivery or pick-up orders from the various businesses that have signed up like Monsoon Poon and Danny Doolans.

Save Our Special Cafes
This website describes itself as “a not-for-profit initiative supporting local businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.” You can buy e-vouchers from the website to be used when venues are back in action. Venues include Miss Clawdys, Scarecrow, Williams Eatery, Morsel, Mo’s Bar, and plenty more.

Regulr
You can use this app to make pick-up orders from local restaurant partners like Miann in Fort Street.

Uber Eats
Of course I have to mention Uber Eats because it’s the service that a majority of us know and use even before COVID-19. We will again be able to order using the Uber Eats app from 10am Tuesday. The app will return with two new features. One feature will make contactless delivery the default setting for all orders and another feature will let customers tip restaurants.
