If you don’t know the drill by now, I regularly write posts about must-see movies coming out each month. I format it into a list and give you my reason as to why I think each movie is worth the price of a movie ticket (which is not cheap nowadays). For this month’s must-see movies post, I’m going to do things differently because I don’t need to make a list this month. For November, there is only one movie that you absolutely must see and that is…
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
The official release date for the second instalment of the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise is November 15. There are advanced screenings of the movie on November 14 so if you are really keen to watch this movie already, you can do so a day earlier.
I already know I’m seeing this movie more than once in the cinemas – I mean that’s what I always do when a new Harry Potter movie comes out. And yes, I know this isn’t a Harry Potter movie but I’m just really happy that we get to continue seeing the wizarding world expand and develop.
Here is the official synopsis of the film:
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
Clearly, a big focus of the second film will be on Grindelwald – I mean he does get a shout out in the title. We saw a little bit of his character at the end of the first film but I am quite keen to see more of Depp’s portrayal of the character. Another performance I am keen to see is Law’s portrayal of Dumbledore. I feel like I know the character of Dumbledore so well in the Harry Potter movies (and books of course) that I am quite intrigued as to how Law will portray a younger Dumbledore. Will it live up to my high expectations? I sure hope so.
So just to reiterate my point, you don’t need a list informing you of what movies are worth watching this month because the main thing to know is that Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is out in November and you HAVE to watch it.
