The Auckland Live Cabaret Season Is Upon Us And It Sounds Super Fun

If you’re looking for a mix of glamour, music, drag, theatre, and comedy, then the Auckland Live Cabaret Season is for you.

From June 11 -16, the fabulous venue that is The Civic will host a variety of cabaret shows throughout the week.

Kicking off this year’s cabaret season is the show Delicious Oblivion. Set in Berlin in the 1920s and 1930s during explosive political change, you can expect from this show rousing anthems that expose the hypocrisy of politics and the art of the possible.

Another show that sounds good is The Heels Are Alive. I mean just the play on words with the title is enough to pique my interest. This contemporary embodiment of Pasifika pride welcomes audiences to the urban jungle where tropical flowers bloom, oceans roar, and sands set fire.

After touring the globe, the show Yummy is making its Auckland debut at the Auckland Live Cabaret Season. Apparently, the show is a transgressive, gender fluid, and fashion-conscious party. In other words, it sounds like you’re going to have a fun-filled night out at this show.

If you’re up for something different than just sitting and watching a show, then Grand Opening is the one for you. Wellington theatre-makers Barbarian Productions will guide audiences in a room-to-room tour of The Civic where you can learn about the venue’s cabaret days past and rediscover the grandeur of the architecture.

Along with the different shows, there is also a hidden late-night piano bar involved in the festivities where you can mingle with cabaret artists and musicians. You can even take to the stage if you wanted to entertain at the intimate venue.

There are more shows that are part of the Auckland Live Cabaret Season that I haven’t mentioned. Tickets and all the information you need about the shows are available via the Auckland Live website.
