People will have the chance next month to walk through a section of the 3.45km-long City Rail Link (CRL) tunnels and see what work has been done so far for the country’s largest transport infrastructure project costing a whopping $4.4 billion.

The event will take place on November 17, with only 10,000 people allowed to take the tour. You will need a ticket for entry, which will only be available online from November 6. The tickets will be free and limited to six per person so all you have to worry about is securing your tickets before they run out!

People will be able to walk under lower Queen Street, the nearly complete Commercial Bay, and into lower Albert Street, which will cover a return distance of 600m that will take about half an hour. Entry and exit from the tunnels will be through the Britomart station.

There will be 10 entry sessions during the day from 8am until last entry at 5pm. For safety reasons, each session will have a maximum of 1,000 people and you will be able to nominate the time of your visit when tickets become available.

The CRL said that details for the event are still being finalised and a full programme will be shared soon.
