Just because Halloween is on a Thursday, that doesn’t mean the celebrations have to stop on that day. The fun can keep going until the weekend and here’s a rundown of things that you can do:

We’re All Mad Here – A Tim Burton Halloween Show
November 2
Where: Cassette Nine

This will be an evening where Cassette will become more than just your usual quirky club. A stage show featuring burlesque, drag, magic, and circus acts will bring to life characters from some of director Tim Burton’s famous films such as Beetlejuice and Alice in Wonderland. Halloween-inspired cocktails will be served on the infamous Cassette teapots because, of course. Dress ups are encouraged and you may even snag the coveted best-dressed prize on offer. The fun starts from 8pm and tickets are available via Eventfinda or at the door.

Mexico Celebrates Day of the Dead
November 2
Where: Mexico Britomart

Okay, this is stretch because Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that is totally separate to Halloween but it is a holiday to celebrate and remember those who have passed away so that sounds kind of Halloween-ish. Now that I’ve explained my reason for including this on the things-to-do list, Mexico will be commemorating the occasion with the introduction of the pineapple, passion, and cherry slushy margarita worth $8 all day. Plus, their very popular fried chicken will be half price all day at $8 per bowl. They had me at half price fried chicken.

Swan Lake
November 2
Where: ASB Theatre, Aotea Centre

Less scary but more fantasy, the Imperial Russian Ballet Company will bring to life the beloved classical ballet Swan Lake where magic, mystical creatures, and the real world mix. It’s not your typical Halloween to-do but the story does feature magic and creatures so similar to Day of the Dead, this is another event to be filed under kind of Halloween-ish. There are two shows scheduled for Saturday, November 2 and tickets are available via Ticketmaster.
