Here are the must-see movies in April:

Pet Sematary (April 4)
I saw the trailer for this movie before our screening of Jordan Peele’s Us and if you saw my face while I was watching it, I looked very confused. This movie looks very weird. The trailer repeatedly showed scenes of this cat with, I think, the intention of creeping people out but instead, I thought the cat looked adorable. This movie is a meme generator in the making. While it doesn’t sound like I have high regards for this movie, it is based on a horror novel by Stephen King so I’m actually optimistic that this film is going to deliver on the scare factor because of the source material. And it involves creepy kids and creepy kids in horror movies always deliver on the creepiness.

Pet Sematary follows Louis Creed, his wife Rachel, and their two young children Gage and Ellie who move to rural Maine where they discover a mysterious burial ground near their new home.

Shazam! (April 4)
Unlike most of the brooding DC flicks, this movie actually looks light-hearted and fun, and I say this as a good thing. It’s a nice change. Reactions from those who have seen an advance screening of this movie have been positive so that’s a good start for this origin story. In the movie, by shouting out the word “Shazam,” 14-year-old foster kid Billy Batson can turn into the adult superhero Shazam courtesy of an ancient wizard.

Avengers: Endgame (April 24)
Arguably the biggest movie coming out this year, there is no escaping the immense anticipation out there to see this movie. It’s not surprising that the details of the plot have been kept under wraps but word on the street is this movie is going to be at least three hours long. Personally, I’m so happy about this long running time because we have waited so long to get to this point of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I mean the first Iron Man movie came out in 2008 and many other Marvel characters, origin stories, and sequels later, here we are. No doubt, this movie is going to be epic. The journey it took to get to this point is unparalleled. No other movie franchise has accomplished such a feat.

Avengers: Endgame follows the events after Thanos wiped out half of all life in the universe and the remaining Avengers take one final stand to undo what he did.
