When the new YOYOSO store in the city opened this past weekend, I made sure to carve out some time for a visit. Main reason was to have a good nosy around the store but also, I thought that I might be able to buy the $5 present that I need to bring for this Christmas party that I’m going to in the weekend. Yes, the budget is $5 and that’s the thing about YOYOSO, the items they sell are reasonably priced (sometimes to the point of dirt cheap) and they are really, really cute.
If you haven’t been inside a YOYOSO store, it’s basically like stepping into a world full of all things adorable. According to their website, they mainly focus on 8 categories of general merchandise, which includes stationery, accessories (for home, travel and fashion), and cosmetics. So just imagine items in those categories but make them really adorable, that’s YOYOSO.
The YOYOSO store in the city is located at 292 Queen Street (basically opposite The Civic Theatre). It’s a corner store that will be hard to miss given the bright blue, green colour of the façade. When I went for my visit, there was a huge stuffed animal by the glass doors when I entered. This immediately set the scene of the adorableness to come. Because I believe pictures would do a better job at reinforcing how cute everything is, I think it’s best if I just show you some of the things you can buy in the store:
So cute, right? Even the tissues are so cute!
The store is two levels and to my surprise, the first floor has a café where you can get savoury and sweet goodies and bubble tea. To keep everything “on brand”, even the food that you can buy at the café is so cute to the point that I probably wouldn’t want to eat them and ruin how they look.
There are some chairs for seating on the first floor next to the café but walk downstairs to the second level and there are tables and chairs for more seating options – one area in particular has a mural and it’s a bit random but it works in this store because I find the store itself to be a bit random.
The randomness is mostly in terms of what they sell. Yes, it’s general merchandise but the range is random. I mean seeing that they sell stationery is not a surprise but I didn’t anticipate seeing things like massagers. Even some of the toys they sell are a bit random. In saying this, let’s not forget what all these items have in common, because they do all have something in common, they’re all cute stuff.
So in a nutshell, if you want random cute stuff, YOYOSO is now open for business.
P.S. I didn’t end up getting my $5 present during my visit. There were too many options to choose from and I couldn’t decide what to get. I was so close to getting a mug.
