During Easter time, it is a given that I am going to be devouring chocolates and hot cross buns with absolutely no regrets. While my choice for Easter chocolates tend to be your typical ones on offer at the supermarket, I try to be a little bit more adventurous with the hot cross buns. Not with the flavours because I am boring and just get the chocolate one every time. What I mean about a little bit more adventurous is going to different places to check out their interpretation of the hot cross bun. This time around, I ventured to Miann to try their delicous-looking version of the Easter staple.
If you follow Miann on social media, then you would have seen photos of their mouthwatering hot cross buns. Seriously, it is dangerous looking through their Facebook and Instagram pages because I always feel hungry as I scroll through all their dessert photos. Two friends of mine have also seen these hot cross buns posts and we made a plan to go to Miann one weekend to satisfy our cravings.
We went on a Sunday afternoon to Miann’s Fort Street location and I was shocked to see the inside so empty. I have never seen the store this quiet before. Normally whenever I go here with folks, we could barely get a table. But we do tend to visit during the evenings so I guess if you want to visit Miann without having to worry about securing a table, Sunday mid-afternoon is your best bet.
Miann bakes two flavours of hot cross buns, traditional and chocolate. Can you guess which one I ordered? The decision-making does not stop with the flavour of hot cross bun however, the next step is to decide which gelato flavour should accompany your hot cross bun. Yes, that’s right! Your hot cross bun is paired with a scoop of gelato! It took me a while to decide which gelato flavour to get but ultimately, I went with the salted caramel gelato because salted caramel is always a good idea.
This may come across a bit anticlimactic but truthfully, I don’t know if words can fully express how delicious this was. It was so good. So good! I was hooked after one bite. As I was taking more bites, I was even more happy that I chose to get the salted caramel gelato because the chocolate hot cross bun on its own leaned more on the bitter side so the gelato added the sweetness that was needed. I do like that it wasn’t too sweet so to me, that was a plus.
After tasting the deliciousness myself, I would highly recommend for you to also give it a go. I truly do believe you will be satisfied. So given the choice, would you choose the traditional or chocolate hot cross bun? And which gelato flavour would you pair it with?
