Quarantine Cooking: Restaurant Recipes To Try Out For Easter

While I still wish that we could just cancel 2020 altogether, on the bright side, we are inching closer to crossing the halfway point of our nationwide lockdown. During this lockdown period, days can understandably feel like they are blurring together so in case you haven’t realised, Easter is only days away. Because Rona is so rude and refuses to leave, Easter is going to look different this year to say the least. When I say look different, I mean that it should look like the inside of your house because you need to obey the rules and STAY HOME. Even though we will be confined to our bubbles this coming Easter, that doesn’t mean that we have to miss out on celebrating the occasion. I’m personally adamant about celebrating Easter in some form as my way of flipping the bird to Rona. I refuse for Rona to ruin Easter. With that said, I’ve pulled together a list of five recipes from some of the top restaurants in the city that you can try to make at home for this coming Easter.

Ima Cuisine’s Hot Cross Buns
This whole piece would be pointless if I didn’t include Ima’s hot cross buns as they are consistently voted as one of the best hot cross buns in Auckland. Also, if you still wanted to purchase them in-store post-Easter, Ima has said that they will be serving their hot cross buns after the lockdown.

Miann’s Hot Cross Buns
My personal favourite hot cross buns are the ones that Miann serve. I’m not a traditionalist when it comes to my hot cross buns (I prefer the chocolate flavour) so I like that Miann gives customers the option to eat their hot cross bun with ice cream. Just as a suggestion, maybe you’d like to have your homemade Miann hot cross bun with ice cream as well.

Mexico’s Lamb Picadillo Taco
It’s not your traditional Easter lamb recipe but there’s nothing conventional about this year’s Easter anyway so why not give this recipe from Mexico a go?

Maia Atvars’ Lamb Tortillas
Maia Atvars is the Head Chef of Saint Alice and his lamb tortillas recipe does look like it comes from a pro. You make things from scratch (even the bbq sauce and the tortillas) so this recipe is a good way to pass the time.

Hello Beasty’s Espresso Martini
I wanted to throw this recipe in here because I think an espresso martini pairs well with hot cross buns. Do you agree?
