Margaret Atwood, the author of the classic novel The Handmaid’s Tale, will tour New Zealand in early 2020.

The three-city tour will start in Wellington, the next stop will be Auckland, and then will finish in Christchurch. Her Auckland show will be on February 11, 2020 at The Civic.

The main reason for the tour is to promote Atwood’s recently published novel, The Testaments, which is the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, but promoters have said that the show will be a retrospective of her entire career.

Speaking of her career, Atwood has written over 50 books, poetry, and critical essays – her most popular being The Handmaid’s Tale. Although The Handmaid’s Tale was published back in 1985, the novel went back to the bestseller charts thanks in large part to the 2017 release of the award-winning Hulu adaptation. The television series also played a part in raising Atwood’s profile and making her even more popular.

General public tickets for her show go on sale Friday, November 29 via Ticketmaster.
