So far I’ve used high tea as an excuse to catch up with the gals, dress up all fancy and feel very posh (pinkies up!). Never short on popularity, there are a number of high teas that you can go to in town, with several of them even having a theme. While we are already spoilt for choice, there’s a new kid on the high tea block that I think is worth a mention.
The new Park Hyatt Auckland Hotel on Halsey Street has introduced a new afternoon tea concept at its new elegant waterfront restaurant Living Room. Yes, the repeated use of the word “new” is deliberate because this isn’t going to be your typical high tea.
First off, don’t expect all the food to come out in one go on a high tea stand. Executive pastry chef Callum Liddicoat designed a menu that will take diners on what is being described as a “journey of discovery“. Sounds very intriguing. A combination of sweet and savoury treats inspired by seasonal ingredients will be served in five courses, with tea of course. You can even add a glass of Champagne if you’d like to elevate your afternoon tea experience further.
Ideal for a lazy afternoon, the whole experience is supposed to be enjoyed over a two hour period. It costs $62 for the five courses with tea. Feel free to make a booking for the group if you’re keen for an indulgent afternoon. I, for one, will get in touch with the gals to see when they’re available.
