Savour this coming long weekend, folks, because it’s going to be another few months before we get our next one. But let’s not focus on the negatives; let’s just get excited about the Queen’s Birthday holiday and the fun things to do during this three-day weekend.

Apart from just Netflix and chilling, here are other things for you to do as well:

Queen’s Birthday Market
June 2-4
Where: Queen’s Wharf

They had me at Queen’s Birthday; you can’t be more in theme than that. This market at Shed 10 is free and has tasty British goodies, rides, live entertainment, and shopping to keep you busy and happy.

Ballet Revolución
June 1-2
Where: The Civic

Why not add some culture to your weekend with a show that combines ballet with street dance? Featuring hits from Camila Cabello (yes, this obviously refers to Havana because it’s just too perfect for this show), Adele, Prince, and Justin Bieber, the show guarantees to have you out of your seat and onto your feet.

The Secret Winter Garden Pop-Up
June 1
Where: The Glass Goose

Okay, it’s meant to be a secret but I’m spilling the beans anyway! The gorgeous central city rooftop bar will be home to The Secret Winter Garden every Friday starting from June 1. Get this, the pop-up will feature cascading blooms, Chinese lanterns, winter-time florals, jazzy saxophone tunes, and delicious dishes from Judge Bao, MELT, Temaki Truck, and The Rolling Pin. Based on that, this one truly sounds like it will be a good way to kick off the long weekend festivities.

Niall Horan – The Flicker World Tour
June 1
Where: Spark Arena

Niall Horan is such a cutie (yes, this is very important information for me to point out) and he is bringing his first ever arena tour to Auckland with one show at Spark Arena. You get to sing along to his hits Slow Hands and This Town, including songs from his upcoming debut solo album.

Ardbeg Day
June 2
Where: The Jefferson

Be one of the first in the world to try the new limited edition whisky, Ardbeg Grooves, on Ardbeg Day. I say that like I know what I’m talking about. I’m not a whisky drinker so I’m simply passing on information here. So if you like your whisky, this one’s for you! Clearly, I’ll be elsewhere…

Auckland Doc Edge Festival
Ends June 4
Where: Q Theatre

Before the international documentary film festival ends this long weekend, catch a screening (or two, or more) of one of the remaining documentaries left in the schedule. For instance, the festival closes with the documentary Spielberg in which the legendary director is the one being directed by filmmaker Susan Lacy.

And there you have it! A list of things to do this long weekend. No matter what you get up to, I hope you have a great Queen’s Birthday weekend!
