Even though the Waitangi Day holiday is on a Wednesday this year, do not fret because we still get a four-day workweek, which is always a win, and there are still things to do in town to make the day fun.
Here’s a list of things to do on February 6:
Waitangi Day Vector Lights
Where: Auckland Harbour Bridge
A light show telling the story of the islands of Waitematā from the perspective of local iwi Te Kawerau a Maki is set to illuminate the iconic Auckland Harbour Bridge as part of this year’s Waitangi Day celebrations. The seven-minute show plays every half hour from 9pm until midnight so secure your spot somewhere along the waterfront to catch a glimpse of the show.
The Pink Gin Pop Up Party
Where: La Zeppa
Indulge in a themed rooftop bar session at La Zeppa who is hosting The Pink Gin Pop Up Party throughout February. You’ve got from midday to midnight to drink pink gin spritz, blooming blossoms, prose, and candy floss cocktails underneath a towering cherry blossom tree.
Sunrise Yoga
Where: Queen’s Wharf
While some may choose to sleep in for the holiday, early risers can head to Queen’s Wharf for a free sunrise yoga session from 7am to 8:15am. All experience levels are welcome so don’t feel put off to give it a go if you’re not a yogi. Also, a few mats are provided but it’s best to bring your own.
Queer & Trans Open Mic Night
Where: ASB Waterfront Theatre
Present by Breaking Boundaries as part of the Pride Festival, the Queer & Trans Open Mic Night welcomes queer and trans voices to get up on the mic and showcase their talents in a supportive and friendly environment. The event is open for everyone to enjoy and entry is by donation, with 100% of the donations to be reinvested in Breaking Boundaries events that support the LGBTQ+ community.
